Earth Breeze vs Tru Earth: Which Eco-Friendly Laundry Detergent Is Right For You?

If you’re passionate about creating a more sustainable household, you know how quickly little things like plastic bottles can add up!

The most frustrating part is that many products, such as laundry detergent, don’t need to be packaged in plastic at all. It’s just what we (and the laundry detergent industry) have grown used to!

Earth Breeze and Tru Earth are two of the leading brands of eco-friendly laundry detergent available today. Both are committed to eliminating plastic waste and reducing shipping emissions without sacrificing convenience and cleaning power.

Before we go on to a detailed comparison between the two brands, below is a quick comparison table that might help you:

Tru Earth vs EarthBreeze – comparison table

After trying both brands, my verdict is that they are extremely similar products. One of the small points of difference is the price. Earth Breeze is a bit cheaper!

Another point of difference is the manufacturing location: Earth Breeze is made in China while Tru Earth is made in Canada – which is very rare. Another option, if local production is important to you Dropps is a US-made brand you should look into. For more details, check out our article Earth Breeze vs Dropps.

What Are Laundry Detergent Sheets And How Do They Work?

Dissolvable laundry detergent sheets, like those offered by Earth Breeze and Tru Earth, are an eco-friendly alternative to traditional detergent formulas.

The best thing about these laundry detergent sheets is that they don’t require bulky plastic packaging. They produce less post-consumer waste and fewer transportation emissions than the liquid or powder detergents available at your local supermarket.

At first, the concept of laundry detergent in the form of a sheet can seem odd. But if you’ve used laundry detergent pods before, you’re already familiar with dissolvable detergent!

Earth Breeze and Tru Earth sheets work in both hot and cold water. Just place the sheets in your washer and press start!

Earth Breeze

Concentrated

Earth Breeze Laundry Detergent Sheets - 30 Detergent Sheets - 60 Loads - Concentrated Liquidless Laundry Soap - No Plastic Jug - Fresh Scent

Earth Breeze

A plastic-free alternative to liquid laundry detergent.

Earth Breeze is an Oregon-based company offering a plastic-free alternative to liquid laundry detergent in the form of its laundry sheets. For more in-depth information, check out our Earth Breeze review.

Formulas

There are currently two formulas of Earth Breeze Laundry Sheets available: Fresh Scent and Fragrance-Free.

The ingredients for these two formulas are identical. The only difference is that, as the name implies, the Fragrance-Free version does not include added fragrance.

Ingredients

Earth Breeze Laundry Sheets contain just 9 ingredients (or 8, if you opt for the Fragrance-Free version). This is far fewer ingredients than the vast majority of laundry detergents — eco-friendly and not — available on the market!

While Earth Breeze deserves kudos for eliminating unnecessary ingredients, this detergent is not 100% sustainable.

Earth Breeze Laundry Sheets contain polyvinyl alcohol and polyethylene glycol — water-soluble petroleum byproducts.

Since these ingredients are water-soluble, there is no evidence that they harm the environment when disposed of via wastewater. But producing petroleum-based products in the first place is a large contributor to pollution and other environmental concerns.

Cost

A single package of Earth Breeze Laundry Sheets costs $20 and can clean up to 60 loads of laundry. Signing up for a no-contract subscription lowers the price to $12.95 per package. You can get 40% discount by clinking the link below:

Of course, total cost means very little in the world of laundry detergent. What really matters is the cost per load.

Earth Breeze Laundry Sheets cost an average of 33 cents per load (or 22 cents with a subscription). This is comparable to most laundry formulas sold at the supermarket!

Packaging

All Earth Breeze packaging is 100% plastic-free! Instead, this laundry detergent is packaged in lightweight cardboard envelopes.

Once the envelope is empty, Earth Breeze packaging can be safely recycled or composted with other paper products.

Availability

Both formulas of Earth Breeze Laundry Sheets are available through the Earth Breeze website and popular online retailers like Amazon.

Earth Breeze products are sold in select brick-and-mortar stores. But there is currently no quick and easy way to find retailers in a specific area.

Where is Earth Breeze made? Where is the company location?

Earth Breeze is manufactured in China. The company headquarters and warehouse are in Oregon. They also have a UK warehouse for UK local shipping.

Brand Initiatives

Earth Breeze donates 10 loads of laundry supplies to charities and non-profits for each package of Laundry Sheets sold.

As a company, Earth Breeze participates in ocean clean-up and reforestation efforts. Earth Breeze also partners with sustainability organizations like We Are Neutral and 1% for the Planet in an effort to lower its carbon footprint.

Tru Earth

Ultra-Concentrated

Tru Earth Compact Dry Laundry Detergent Sheets - Up to 64 Loads (32 Sheets) - Paraben-Free - Original Eco-Strip Liquidless Laundry Detergent, Travel Laundry Sheets - Fresh Linen

Tru Earth

A gentle, fragrance-free formula specially designed for parents and their young children.

Tru Earth is a British Columbia-based company offering a variety of eco-friendly alternatives to household products, including its popular Eco Strips laundry detergent.

Formulas

Tru Earth Eco Strips are available in several different formulas to meet a variety of needs.

The Fresh Linen and Fragrance-Free Eco Strips are the brand’s original formula. The only difference between the two versions is scented vs unscented.

Tru Earth Baby Eco-Strips are a gentle, fragrance-free formula specially designed for parents and their young children.

Finally, the Tru Earth Platinum Eco-Strips (available in Fresh Linen and Fragrance-Free versions) are ultra-concentrated detergent formulated for heavily soiled laundry, including sweaty activewear.

Ingredients

All Tru Earth Eco Strips are formulated with 12 standard ingredients. Scented Eco Strips also include fragrance, for 13 ingredients total.

While Tru Earth Eco Strips include a larger number of ingredients, the company does a good job of labeling each with its source and purpose. Tru Earth also provides safety data for its original and Platinum formulas.

Nearly all Tru Earth ingredients are plant-derived. However, like Earth Breeze, this laundry detergent does include petroleum-derived polyvinyl alcohol.

Cost

Tru Earth Eco Strips cost $19.95 per 32-load package. With a subscription, each package costs only $12.95.

This comes out to 62 cents per load of laundry. Subscribers pay approximately 40 cents per load.

According to these numbers, Tru Earth Eco Strips are significantly more expensive than liquid laundry detergent and eco-friendly competitors like Earth Breeze. However, it’s possible to get more loads out of a single package by using half-sheets for smaller loads.

Packaging

When it comes to packaging, Tru Earth is no different than Earth Breeze. Its Eco Strips are packaged in paper envelopes that can be recycled or composted right at home!

Availability

You can purchase Tru Earth products directly through the Tru Earth website, Amazon, and other online retailers.

Tru Earth Eco Strips are also sold at a variety of physical retail locations across Canada and the United States. But the best part is that the Tru Earth website offers a convenient locator so you can quickly and easily find a stockist near you!

Where is Tru Earth made? Where is the company location?

Tru Earth’s headquarters, manufacturing and warehouse are based in British Columbia, Canada. It is rare to find manufacturing facilities in North America.

No doubt, there are great environmental advantages of such location as it reduces the impact of transportation emissions.

Brand Initiatives

With every first-time subscription, Tru Earth donates 32 loads of laundry supplies to charities throughout Canada and the rest of the world.
