Vaelntine’s Day is a holiday everyone loves! But the best gift is those that are made with love – and making them from items you are reusing is that much better!
Today we have a Valentine crafts for toddlers idea that will be a sure hit with the kids – and the adults that will receive the card when it is done. We are big fans of reusing items for creating crafts, like using plastic for shrinky dinks – this was a huge hit with the kids!
Planning ahead has never been a strength in this family – and usually I forget about holidays until they are a day away, except for Christmas of course – I LOVE Christmas.
Great ideas usually arrive a day late and a dollar short. But not so this year with valentines! We stumbled upon a cute and easy Reduce/Reuse idea for home-made valentines cards thanks to the Martha Steward Living magazine that mysteriously arrived in my mailbox a few weeks back. There is story there somewhere – because I do not even subscribe to magazines, but that is another post entirely!
Martha’s February issue had many mouthwatering Valentines’ Day inspirations, most of which we ignored (out waistlines will thank us later).
But we did like an idea she had about making stamps with corrugated cardboard — hers were little rosettes.
We opted for hearts as you can see in the image above.
The options are limitless – well limited to how strong you are to roll them – but you can get pretty creative and the kids will love stamping out the cards for their loved ones. Below is what my kiddos made with our heart shaped cardboard stamps that dad helped roll for us.
Easy peasy. No glitter. No mess. One-of-a-kid valentines.
Nothing new or store-bought with characters and no smart-alecky sayings.
We had plenty of corrugated cardboard in the recycling bin to make our stamps. It did turn out that I had no card stock for the cards, but we found a ton of old file folders that were willing to be down-cycled into valentines.
Some other great “reuse” Valentine ideas we have found among our blogger friends are below to give you a bit more inspiration!
Cardboard Picture Frame
From Two Man and a Truck there is an adorable cardboard picture frame that features the word love stamped on it. This would be pretty easy to make and can be customized in so many ways. They have a few other great ideas as well so definitely go check them out!
Decorative Toilet Paper Love Owls
Love this adorable Valentine’s craft that uses toilet paper rolls! Simple cut the toilet paper roll in half, fold the top to look like owl ears and decorate. A simple and adorable project that is perfect decor for your home or Valentine’s Day party.
You can view more ideas like this on Upcycled Wonders where they have a great collection of inspiring valentine’s day craft images to inspire you and the kids.
We love giving gifts that are from recycled or reused products and really encourage our kids to as well! While some people prefer something new and shiny, thankfully most of my friends and family appreciate these gestures of love that keep the environment healthy!
If you have any easy Valentines ideas that reduce, reuse or recycle that you would like to share please send us a description and a photo and we will be glad to feature it!
